The process we use enables focused and structured thinking by identifying key issues in all dimensions of the change issue and then consequently helps to get everything down on paper. By getting everything down on paper you can confirm, even if it is just to yourself, that the change process outcome and plan is what you are looking to achieve. It's also worth challenging the thinking a little more just to make sure. It's so much better to put this effort in now, before you get to the delivery phase. It's all common sense and very practical, but often a very undervalued process. We find that in most situations, the individual task or deliverable is more important that the wider picture that can be obtained from the change plan. A task developed outside a holistic plan is often rushed and with high expectation. That's when you can make unnecessary mistakes and this can cost money and time. Sometimes when you want to change something in your organisation or you just want to run a project you need to get a bit of a reality check to ensure that key issues clearly articulated and plans are well formed. The byproduct is also increased confidence because you've examined all the issues and are better able to defend your actions.
